Fish Tank Décor

Fish tank decor will vary depending on the type of fish you have. Many times the decor is strictly to create an atmosphere for your aquarium as they are generally used to be soothing. These decorations also make your fish more comfortable. Many times fish will become stressed if they are left out in the open.

By having good decor you will relieve your fishes stress which in turn helps to improve the workings of their immune system. Fish that are comfortable are also more likely to behave naturally which in turn brings out their natural colors and make them be very active and not hide. This means that you will see your fish more often.

Generally you want the decor to match the fishes natural habitats. You do not want tropical decor for fish that tend to live in cold water. Generally fish that live in slow moving rivers will require soft cover which tends to be fully flexible plants.

Other types of fish require hard cover and are for fish that are in fresh water or deep water. This type of decor includes logs, rocks and other solid objects.

You also need to be very aware of what your decorations are made of as some may contain toxic chemicals. There are many compounds that are soluble in water and though the decoration may not be toxic out of water it becomes toxic when placed in water.

Generally any ceramic that is bright in color will be a problem. Make sure the decorations are designed specifically for aquarium use.

Generally you want to provide about 50 to 75% cover for your fish. This means that there will be quite a lot of cover in your tank. If you manage to arrange the cover properly you will always be able to view your fish no matter where they are.
